WHO I AM
Hi! My name is Tara Tierney and I'm an Herbalife Nutrition Independent Distributor living in San Diego, CA.
I've been an Herbalife member since August of 2013 and still use their products to this day!
Not only have I achieved some outstanding health results of my own but I've also been able to create a business that gives me the freedom and flexibility to work from anywhere!
WHAT I DO
I work 1-on-1 with men and women who not only know they are meant for more in life, but who are also ready to make small, daily changes towards a healthier and happier version of themselves.
Whether you are looking to lose some body fat, gain some lean muscle, increase your energy, get more restful sleep, clear up your skin, etc., I am all about helping YOU feel supported and empowered in your journey so that you can achieve whatever it is you desire!
My ultimate goal is to educate you about nutrition, your body and Herbalife's various wellness products so that one day you'll get to a point where you won't need my help in order to maintain your own healthy, active lifestyle.

HOW I FOUND HERBALIFE
At the end of 2012, I quit my 9-5 job and started my own design + marketing business because I wanted to be my own boss, do work that I truly loved and be able to work from anywhere.
I went into entrepreneurship with excitement, confidence and maybe even a touch of arrogance... only to be deeply humbled by this 6 months later, when all of my savings ran out and I realized I wasn't as good at marketing myself as I originally thought I was. I definitely had a lot more to learn.
Stress took over my life and I suffered for months with insomnia. I was working so hard, yet I still couldn't figure out how to get clients or make enough money to pay my bills... which made me feel like such a failure. And the worst part was that I didn't really know what I could do to make things better for myself or how long I was going to have to suffer for. I was in over my head and felt like I was drowning.
So I turned to food for comfort.
By July of 2013, I had gained 20lbs., I had no energy, I still couldn't sleep and felt like absolute shit.
That's when I realized something had to change.
I didn't want to quit and go back to a 9-5 job, so I went looking for the next best thing I could think of; a flexible, part-time job to help supplement my income.
I found an ad on Craigslist from a company that was looking to hire health coaches. I debated about responding to it for about a month, but then I figured why not? I've always been interested in health and fitness, so it would be cool if I could make a little extra money on the side helping others better their overall wellness. Plus, I figured it would help me get out and moving around more, which I knew would help me feel better and also hopefully help me lose some weight in the process!
MY PERSONAL HERBALIFE RESULTS
In August of 2013, I went to an STS (Success Training Seminar) which basically introduces a big group of people to Herbalife.
I learned how the products worked, heard live testimonials from other members (who were ecstatic about their own results!) and learned how I could earn some extra money as a health coach.
The information was really intriguing so I decided to register as a member under the person who introduced me (the person who posted that Craigslist ad I found).
In order to become a health coach and "do the business," I had to use the products, which made sense... I needed to experience the products for myself so I could get a feel for how they worked and therefore be able to help others better.
So my coach did a health evaluation with me and then gave me a recommended Herbalife Quickstart program to try.
I remember sleeping like a rock that first night for the first time in what seemed like FOREVER, which was seriously one of the best feelings in the world!
I went on to drink my shakes (the mint chocolate was my first shake... and it's still one of my all-time favorites!), took my tablets and watched my calorie intake more closely, as recommended in my program. I started feeling a lot better over the next few weeks and was loving how much energy I had again! I felt alive and was excited to see what kind of results I could achieve over time!
HERE ARE MY RESULTS AFTER 3 MONTHS:
Before Herbalife, I was just going to the gym by myself, which was getting a bit lonely after a while and kind of became un-motivating.
After I started Herbalife, I decided to join in on the free fit clubs that were being offered in San Diego at the time, which I found to be a lot of fun! The energy was high, we all pushed each other and everyone was so positive and helpful. 🙂 Plus, I met so many new people... and many of them have become good friends to this day!
In November of 2013, I joined the free 1-month Herbalife fit challenge.
HERE ARE MY RESULTS:
Disclaimer: People who use Herbalife Nutrition Formula 1 twice a day as part of a healthy lifestyle can generally expect to lose around half a pound to 1 pound per week.
Within my first 6 months, I was down 12lbs., lost 6% body fat and gained 4% muscle. 🙂
Over five years later, I'm still using Herbalife products and still achieving new results!
HERE ARE SOME MORE RESULTS FROM THEN AND NOW:
It's crazy to look back and see all these old pictures of me; so much has changed! I can't believe this is what I looked like before I started Herbalife... it's a bit embarrassing to put these before photos up online but I'm doing it in hopes of inspiring others. 🙂
I've learned that achieving results does not necessarily mean changing the # on the scale, it's more about about changing your overall body composition.
For example, in the picture above, there's only about a 7 lb. difference in weight, but I look more "toned" because I've replaced fat with lean muscle.
A pound of muscle is denser than a pound of fat, so it takes up less volume.
Here's what 5 lbs. of fat looks like VS what 5 lbs. of lean muscle looks like:
More lean muscle, less fat = a smooth and toned look!
So as you work towards your goals, it's important to understand and expect that the # on the scale might stay the same or even increase over time. This is why it might be a better idea to take weekly/monthly pictures and/or take measurements with a body measuring tape periodically... so you can actually see the results and get out of that scale-weight mindset.
Once I had success with fat loss, I then decided to start trying to gain some muscle... and ended up gaining most of the weight back, BUT most of that weight was lean muscle mass!
In the photos below, I weighed about 10 lbs. more in the last photo than I did in the first photo, but I look much more shapely and toned! 🙂 This took me about a year to accomplish, but I stuck to my nutrition plan and stayed consistent in the gym and with all that hard work and discipline, I was able to accomplish what I set out to do!
The more lean muscle you have, the more fat and calories your body will naturally burn at rest. So an awesome side effect of increasing my muscle mass was a higher metabolism... which means I can now eat more! And as a foodie, that's pretty important to me. 😉
I used to eat around 1,500 calories a day, but now I can easily eat over 2,000 calories a day, on average, and not gain fat.
Notice I didn't say "gain weight." This is because gaining weight on the scale isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if you're putting on lean muscle! Remember, muscle is denser and takes up less volume than fat, so you could be "gaining weight" on the scale but your clothes might be fitting looser because there's less fat on your body!
I also lift weights about 4-5 times a week, play soccer 4 times a week, walk as often as I possibly can, and have tons of energy!
By the way, Rebuild Strength is my favorite post-workout shake! I actually like to drink it like hot chocolate... it seriously tastes SO GOOD!
THE BUSINESS SIDE OF THINGS
I've learned how to market myself online (so I never ended up having to go back to a 9-5 job!) and still work from home today as my own boss.
I still have my design + marketing business, but I have also been able to make online health coaching through Herbalife a nice little part-time business on the side... a side business that actually makes me most of my income every month!
I only work the business from home (or from wherever I travel to), I make my own schedule and I can basically work as little or as much as I want.
Sticking with Herbalife was the best thing I could have done because my business has really taken off over the past few years, which is SUPER FREAKIN' EXCITING! I even qualified for the Herbalife Vacation to Disney World in 2017 and the Herbalife Vacation to Punta Cana in 2018!
